Genre: Card & Board Game
CloverPit is unabashedly satanic slot-machine Balatro inside Buckshot Roulette - moody, stylish, and addictive. The spins, synergies and vibes hit hard - it’s intriguingly thrilling. Once you’ve cracked a few builds, the depth might run a bit thinner than its counterparts, but absolutely worth a play. It speaks to how strong the core is that I just want more.
Word Play blends Scrabble with roguelike tropes, offering clever modifiers and polished design. Runs can lack the wild synergies of its Balatro inspiration, but it’s still a sharp, satisfying word puzzler, especially if you’re a word nerd.
Pip My Dice takes Yahtzee-style rolls and turns them into a pretty slick roguelike. Customisable dice, clever relics, and endless synergies make it dangerously addictive. Rough edges and overt Balatro inspiration aside, it’s got that number-go-brrr joy.
A fresh twist on autobattlers, The Bazaar was described by its ex-Hearthstone-pro creator Reynad as “multiplayer Slay the Spire”. Roguelike runs are PvE and async PvP, letting you pause, pivot, and plan without the usual pressure. Deep, fresh, and very addictive - despite not being officially released yet, it’s already a standout.
Die in the Dungeon is a fresh roguelike deckbuilder that trades cards for dice, aiming to combine strengths of strategy with unpredictability of randomness. The charming art and unique mechanics make for a compelling experience, but early-game monotony and balance issues hold it back a bit. Runs are looong too, so you gotta be up for that. Lots of potential, though, and absolutely worth playing.
DICEOMANCER stands out amongst roguelike deckbuilders with bold, creative mechanics, including the enigmatic One Dice - no spoilers, but it’s game-changing. Strategic mana management and class variety keep gameplay fresh, while its tense progression system adds challenge. All that with fresh and gorgeous art makes DICEOMANCER a must-play for fans of the genre.
Balatro isn’t just a great game - it’s a revelation. Its inventiveness and razor-sharp design all but set a new standard. With perfectly balanced mechanics and inspired, creative decisions, every moment feels deliberate, rewarding, extraordinary. A true masterpiece. Even in a year with lots of great releases, an easy pick for game of the year.
Pretty wild that Balatro, an indie game from a solo developer, can put out a free update featuring card skins in collaboration with franchises; The Witcher 3, Dave the Diver, Vampire Survivors, and Among Us. Onya localthunk! Friends of Jimbo is available now.
PvE Super Auto Pets roguelike. Super simple to pick up, immediately addictive, and very easy to break - in the best possible way. Cleverly executed and extremely fairly priced. If you’re into autobattlers, deckbuilding, synergies, etc. - just get it!
This super tight concept with an impressive amount of content won the LD55 Jam, under the theme of ‘Summoning’. Cool music, funny sounds, silly minigames, really polished, and more than anything just really fun and satisfying. It introduces mechanics well, escalates nicely and is genuinely addictive.
