I struggle to think of a franchise I have less interest in than COD, but MW2s DMZ mode is surprisingly fun. A more accessible Tarkov, simplifying the systems all the way down, potentially too far.

My worries for such a fundamental shift, turning Darkest Dungeon into a roguelite, are completely quashed. Its predecessors brutal, punishing heart is still here, inside an absolute masterclass in presentation.

See: 2018 Spider-Man. It’s more of the same - not a bad thing.

A fantastic potential (but-probably-not) conclusion for the Norse God of War reimagining. Stunning to look at, pretty well written, and driven along by beefy, satisfying combat. A bit on rails and unsurprising at times, but a cool game regardless.

Very clever minimalist puzzler. Relaxing music under a compelling concept carried through a good amount of levels considering it was a gamejam submission.

Ludum Dare is a twice-annual game jam competition founded in 2002. Distinct from the more relaxed ‘Jam’ category, the Compo is classic Ludum Dare: games are created entirely from scratch by one person, in just 48 hours. These are the annual winners of that category.

An atmospherically unique experience with gorgeously disgusting Giger-eque art direction. I almost wish it stuck to walking & puzzles, because everything else just gets in the way. Short but good.

A very arcadey gamejam entry with waves of enemies and online leaderboards - simple, addictive, fun and clever. Can’t help but like the silly, punny title and theme too.

Clever, unique game with lots to like. Core gameplay loop is solid & the unlocks are meaningful. Art, sound and especially music are all fantastic. All quality, but quantity may leave some wanting.

Visually stunning & a good step forward for the Quantic formula: multiple characters and branching narratives. The world is cool, but its thesis is a bit heavy-handed at times.
